Chasing Steinbeck's ghost -- The video
In 2010 I retraced the 10,000-mile road trip around the US that John Steinbeck took in 1960 and turned into his iconic best-seller 'Travels with Charley.' Here's a link to the video I shot as I drove.
These videos were shot in the fall of 2010 while I retraced John Steinbeck's 'Travels With Charley' road trip around the USA in 1960.
They start at Steinbeck's house in Sag Harbor, Long Island, which he left on Sept. 23, 1960 with his poodle Charley and end in Pittsburgh, where I live.
They are raw and largely unedited and the wind in Flyover Country is a constant sonic companion, but I visit Steinbeck's houses and several places he stayed on his journey.
To learn what I found out about Steinbeck's iconic road book -- i.e., that it was full of fictions and fibs and was not a true account of his trip -- read my book 'Dogging Steinbeck' or go to https://clips.substack.com/s/dogging-steinbeck-exposing-the-untruths
