Busting Yellow Cab, Day 2
Yellow Cab was poorly regulated but was protected from competition by the law. For 60 years it screwed Pittsburghers with high fares & bad service. Illegal jitneys served blacks community much better.
Despite my efforts to expose the awfulness of the Yellow Cab monopoly and the way it was protected by bad laws on Page 1 of the city’s major newspapers, nothing happened.
No one cared much. The captured regulators of the PUC did nothing and continued to protect Yellow Cab’s monopoly privileges. The other news media in town did nothing to follow up what Cristina Rouvalis and I did.
Yellow Cab of Pittsburgh continued to screw the city’s poor and suburbanites with its high prices and horrible service for 20 years. In 2015 Uber arrived, flouted all the stupid laws protecting Yellow Cab and saved Pittsburghers from six decades of Yellow Cab tyranny. It was a miraculous victory by Uber that made the city a better place for everyone.
