Back in John Steinbeck's Country
Steinbeck's name and ghost are everywhere in Monterey County -- aka, Steinbeck Country. If you squint, you can see most of it from Fremont Peak, my favorite government mountain. Article No. 6.
In 2010 I retraced the 10,000-mile route John Steinbeck took in 1960 for ‘Charley’ and turned my trip into Dogging Steinbeck. As I drove I wrote nine Sunday travel articles for the Post-Gazette. No. 1 article was the Maine coast.)
